Joanne started attending my class about 5 months ago and is now a regular. I chose to spotlight her because of her transformation. After only a few classes I began to see changes, not only in her posture, but in her whole being.
What brought you to yoga?
I came to yoga as a “life line” back to health after suffering from burn out from years as a caretaker of my husband who has Dementia. The stress of taking care of him left me with stroke-like symptoms that resulted in a four-day hospital stay. Thank God everything checked out OK, but I knew I had to make some changes to my life.
How has your yoga practice made your life better?
My yoga practice has given me better posture that, in turn, has relieved a lot of my body aches and pain. It also cleared my mind and helped me manage my stress so I am more open and in touch with my surroundings. I also have more energy.
What is one of your favorite poses?
I love them all, but if I had to choose, it would be svasana.
Do you want to share anything else?
Making time for yourself is not selfish. It's necessary to survive and to help others. I am an 86 year old mother of seven just learning to make a more meaningful and joyful life.
